Dublin retailer to open store at former Filene’s site

The return of the old Filene’s building as the epicenter of shopping in downtown Boston is nearly complete.

On Wednesday, the Irish clothing chain Primark announced it would open its first US store in the historic Burnham Building, where more than a century ago the Filene family created a sensation in Boston with a department store that drew shoppers by the thousands.

“I think it continues a very proud retailing tradition,” Mario Palumbo, a principal at Millennium Partners, the firm redeveloping the site, said of Primark’s signing. “We’re really excited to return so much of the building to retail. It will restore energy on the street.” Read More…
